In Fast & Furious 9, the satellite weapon Jakob Toretto seeks is called Project Aries. It is a powerful cyberweapon designed to hack into computer-controlled weapons systems around the world.
Project Aries is divided into two parts, and the film’s plot revolves around locating and assembling them. Jakob works with Otto, who finances the operation, while Cipher becomes involved because of her expertise in cybertechnology. Elle, whose family helped develop Aries, is also essential to activating the system.
Once the device is complete, Otto launches a satellite and begins uploading Aries while moving through Tbilisi in an armored truck. Dom Toretto and his team race to stop the upload. In one of the film’s most exaggerated sequences, Roman and Tej use a rocket-powered car to reach orbit and destroy the satellite.
Project Aries is often confused with God’s Eye, another surveillance technology in the franchise, or Nightshade, the weapon from Furious 6. Those are different devices. In F9, Aries is specifically the satellite-linked system capable of compromising global weapons networks.
