In Fast Five, what is the value of the stolen money?

The story behind the answer

In Fast Five, the crew targets $100 million in stolen money belonging to Brazilian criminal businessman Hernan Reyes. The cash is consolidated in a vault inside a Rio de Janeiro police station, leading to the film’s famous sequence in which Dom and Brian drag the vault through the city with Dodge Chargers.

The money comes from Reyes’s criminal empire, which is spread across multiple safe houses. After the crew discovers records identifying the locations, they rob the safe houses and force Reyes to move the remaining cash into one heavily guarded vault. Their plan depends on replacing the real vault with a decoy during the escape.

Viewers sometimes remember the value as a general “fortune” because the sequence focuses so heavily on the vault and chase. The film’s stated figure, however, is $100 million. The heist gives Dom’s crew enough money to disappear and begin new lives after the events of the earlier films.
