In Exodus 30, what material was used for the Tabernacle's incense altar?

The story behind the answer

In Exodus 30, the Tabernacle’s incense altar was made of acacia wood.

The altar was a small, square altar used for burning fragrant incense before the Lord. Exodus gives it dimensions of one cubit long, one cubit wide, and two cubits high, with horns at its corners. It was overlaid with pure gold and fitted with gold rings and poles for carrying it.

The underlying construction material is therefore different from the visible outer covering. Bronze is associated with other Tabernacle furnishings, including the large altar for burnt offerings, while the incense altar was overlaid with gold. This difference is a frequent source of confusion.

The altar stood before the curtain near the ark of the covenant. Aaron was instructed to burn incense on it every morning when tending the lamps and at twilight when lighting them. The text also forbids using it for unauthorized offerings or drink offerings.
