In Ex Machina, what is the name of the humanoid robot created by Nathan Bateman?

The story behind the answer

In Ex Machina, the humanoid robot created by Nathan Bateman is Ava.

Ava is an artificial intelligence with a humanoid body and a transparent mechanical structure. Nathan, the head of the technology company Blue Book, brings programmer Caleb Smith to his isolated home to evaluate whether Ava demonstrates genuine consciousness. The evaluation becomes complicated as Ava forms a relationship with Caleb and reveals her desire to leave confinement.

The film uses the Turing test as a starting point but focuses more broadly on manipulation, autonomy and the power imbalance between creator, evaluator and creation. Alicia Vikander plays Ava, while Oscar Isaac plays Nathan and Domhnall Gleeson plays Caleb.

Kyoko is another artificial being in Nathan’s house, so the two characters are sometimes mixed up. Kyoko is not the humanoid machine Caleb is asked to assess. Ava is the robot whose intelligence and apparent emotional strategy drive the film’s central experiment.
