In Donkey Kong 64, Funky Kong is the character who sells the Kongs their weapons, ammunition-related upgrades, and other combat equipment. His role is a major departure from his familiar surfer persona in earlier Donkey Kong Country games: he wears military-style clothing and operates what resembles an army-surplus shop.
Each playable Kong receives a distinctive weapon from Funky. Donkey Kong uses the Coconut Shooter, Diddy Kong uses Peanut Popguns, Tiny Kong uses the Feather Bow, Lanky Kong uses the Grape Shooter, and Chunky Kong uses the Pineapple Launcher. Funky can also improve the group’s ammunition capacity and targeting abilities.
The other Kong characters are easy sources of confusion. Cranky Kong sells potions that unlock special abilities, while Candy Kong provides instruments and related upgrades. Funky’s shop therefore specifically covers weapons and combat supplies in this game. Donkey Kong 64 was released for the Nintendo 64 in 1999 and features five playable Kongs exploring eight main worlds.
