In Disney's The Princess and the Frog, the bayou firefly who guides Tiana and Naveen is Ray.
Ray is a romantic and knowledgeable firefly who lives in the Louisiana bayou. He joins Tiana, Prince Naveen, and Louis during their journey to find Mama Odie, hoping she can reverse the spell that transformed the humans into frogs. Ray believes deeply in love and regards the evening star as Evangeline, the celestial object he admires.
The character reflects the film's New Orleans and Louisiana setting, while his Cajun-inspired speech and musical personality distinguish him from the other animal companions. Ray is voiced by Jim Cummings in the original English version. He is not the same character as Louis, the trumpet-playing alligator, whose name references jazz musician Louis Armstrong.
