In Disney's The Nightmare Before Christmas, Danny Elfman composed the film's songs and score.
Elfman wrote the music and lyrics as well as the instrumental score for the stop-motion musical. He also provided the singing voice for Jack Skellington, while Chris Sarandon supplied Jack's speaking voice. This combination helped give Jack a distinct musical and dramatic identity.
The songs establish the film's unusual worlds and characters, including Halloween Town's eerie celebration, Jack's discovery of Christmas Town, and Sally's concern for him. Tim Burton conceived the story and produced the film, while Henry Selick directed it.
Elfman had already collaborated with Burton on several projects before The Nightmare Before Christmas, including Pee-wee's Big Adventure, Beetlejuice, and Batman. He is sometimes confused with Alan Menken, Disney's composer for many traditional animated musicals, but Menken did not compose this film.
