In Disney's The Lion King, who composed the film's original score?

In Disney's The Lion King, Hans Zimmer composed the film's original score.

Zimmer's instrumental score supports the film's African setting and dramatic story, from Mufasa's royal presence to the emotional aftermath of his death. The score was developed alongside songs by Elton John and Tim Rice, whose work forms a separate songwriting credit.

Zimmer won the Academy Award for Best Original Score for The Lion King at the 67th Academy Awards in 1995. This fact is sometimes confused with the film's songs: Elton John and Tim Rice wrote the songs, while Zimmer wrote the orchestral score. South African vocalist and composer Lebo M also contributed prominently to the film's musical sound.
