In Disney's The Lion King, which actor voiced Scar in the original English version?

The story behind the answer

In Disney's The Lion King, Jeremy Irons voiced Scar in the original English version.

Irons supplied Scar's speaking voice, giving the villain a controlled, theatrical delivery that contrasts with the character's bitterness and ambition. Jim Cummings performed Scar's singing voice for “Be Prepared,” because the production used a different singer for that musical number.

This split credit is the main reason the answer is often confused. James Earl Jones voiced Mufasa, Rowan Atkinson voiced Zazu, and Nathan Lane voiced Timon; none of them voiced Scar. In the 2019 computer-animated remake, Scar was voiced by Chiwetel Ejiofor instead.

The original The Lion King was released in 1994 and directed by Roger Allers and Rob Minkoff. Its English voice cast included Matthew Broderick as Simba, Moira Kelly as Nala, and Jonathan Taylor Thomas as young Simba.
