In Disney’s The Lion King, what is the name of Simba’s father?

The story behind the answer

In Disney’s The Lion King, Mufasa is Simba’s father.

Mufasa rules the Pride Lands and teaches Simba about responsibility, the natural order, and the “circle of life.” His death in a wildebeest stampede is the central tragedy of the film, after which Simba leaves home believing he is responsible. Simba eventually returns to confront Scar and reclaim his place as king.

James Earl Jones provided Mufasa’s original English speaking voice, while his songs and dialogue helped make the character one of Disney’s most recognizable royal figures. Scar is Mufasa’s younger brother and Simba’s uncle, not his father. The 2019 photorealistic remake also cast Jones as Mufasa, making him one of the few principal actors to reprise a major role.
