In Disney's The Lion King, what is the name of Simba's childhood friend who later becomes queen?

The story behind the answer

In Disney's The Lion King, Simba's childhood friend who later becomes queen is Nala.

Nala is introduced as a young lioness who grows up in the Pride Lands with Simba. She is the daughter of Sarafina and becomes an important figure in the story after Scar takes control of the kingdom. When the drought and food shortage worsen, Nala leaves the Pride Lands to search for help and eventually finds Simba living far away.

Nala persuades Simba to return and challenge Scar, helping restore the rightful royal family. After Scar's defeat, she becomes Simba's mate and queen. The character is sometimes confused with Sarabi, Simba's mother, or Kiara, Simba and Nala's daughter in the later sequel. In the original 1994 film, Nala was voiced by Moira Kelly as an adult and Niketa Calame as a cub.
