In Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame, the bell ringer who lives in Notre-Dame is Quasimodo.
Quasimodo is the cathedral's isolated bell ringer and spends much of his life hidden from Parisian society. During the Festival of Fools, he meets Esmeralda and begins to question the cruel rules imposed on him by Judge Claude Frollo.
Tom Hulce provided Quasimodo's original English voice in the 1996 animated film. The character is based on Victor Hugo's 1831 novel Notre-Dame de Paris, though Disney reshaped the story for a family-oriented musical adventure.
Quasimodo should not be confused with Frollo, the powerful judge who raises him, or Phoebus, the soldier who becomes Esmeralda's ally. The cathedral itself is also a major visual and symbolic setting in the film.
