Yzma is the villainous adviser to Emperor Kuzco in Disney’s The Emperor’s New Groove.
In the 2000 animated comedy, Yzma serves as Kuzco’s royal adviser but secretly wants to take control of the Incan-inspired empire. She attempts to poison the young emperor, but the plan goes wrong when Kuzco is transformed into a llama instead. Yzma then claims that Kuzco has disappeared and tries to rule in his place.
Eartha Kitt provided Yzma’s original English voice, giving the character her distinctive theatrical delivery. Patrick Warburton voiced Kronk, Yzma’s well-meaning but dim-witted assistant. Kronk frequently disrupts Yzma’s schemes, creating much of the film’s comic conflict.
The film was initially developed as a more serious musical project titled Kingdom of the Sun before being reshaped into a fast-paced comedy. Although its final form contains fewer songs than many Disney animated musicals, it remains part of Disney’s animated feature tradition and includes the song “My Funny Friend and Me,” performed by Sting.
