In Disney's Moana, the boastful demigod who helps restore Te Fiti's heart is Maui.
Maui is a legendary shapeshifting demigod armed with a magical fishhook. He originally stole the heart of Te Fiti, a powerful life-giving stone, believing he was helping humanity. Its theft unleashes a spreading ecological blight across the ocean islands.
Moana finds Maui and persuades him to help return the heart. Their voyage forces Maui to confront his insecurity and recognize that heroism is not the same as seeking admiration. Together, they face the lava demon Te Kā and restore the heart to its rightful place.
Maui is sometimes confused with Tamatoa, the giant coconut crab who sings “Shiny.” Tui is Moana's father, while Tala is her grandmother. Maui's English voice was performed by Dwayne Johnson.
