In Disney's High School Musical, Troy Bolton and Gabriella Montez attend East High School.
East High is the fictional Albuquerque school where Troy, Gabriella, Sharpay, Ryan, Chad, and Taylor study. The school's basketball court, classrooms, cafeteria, and theater provide the main settings for the story. Troy is the captain of the Wildcats basketball team, while Gabriella is a talented academic and singer.
The film's central conflict begins when Troy and Gabriella audition for the school musical. Their interest in singing challenges the social expectations attached to their existing activities and helps inspire other students to try new things.
East High should not be confused with Rydell High, the fictional school in Grease, or North Shore High School, the setting of Mean Girls. In the High School Musical franchise, East High remains the defining school location.
