In Disney’s Frozen, which actress voices Elsa in the original English version?

Idina Menzel voices Elsa in the original English version of Disney’s Frozen.

Menzel was already well known for originating the role of Elphaba in the Broadway musical Wicked, where her powerful singing voice became a defining part of her career. Frozen gave her a major animated-film role, pairing her dramatic acting with songs written by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez.

Elsa’s voice is especially prominent in “Let It Go,” the film’s signature musical number. The song became closely associated with Menzel, although Demi Lovato recorded a separate pop version for the end credits. Kristen Bell voices Anna, Elsa’s younger sister, while Jonathan Groff voices Kristoff and Josh Gad voices Olaf.

A common mix-up is confusing Menzel with Jennifer Lee, who co-directed Frozen and wrote its screenplay. Menzel also returned as Elsa for Frozen II, Frozen Fever, Olaf’s Frozen Adventure, and other related Disney projects.
