In Disney’s Frozen, Elsa sings “Let It Go” while creating her ice palace.
The sequence occurs after Elsa flees Arendelle and reaches the North Mountain. As she accepts her powers and decides to stop hiding them, she creates a crystalline palace and changes her appearance. The song became the film’s defining musical number and one of Disney’s most recognizable songs.
“Let It Go” was written by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez. Idina Menzel performs the song in the film as Elsa, while Demi Lovato recorded a separate pop version for the end credits. The two recordings are often treated as interchangeable, but they are distinct performances.
The song won the Academy Award for Best Original Song at the 86th Academy Awards. It also became a major international hit and was recorded in many language versions for the film’s global releases.
