In Disney’s Frozen, the snowman created by Elsa’s magic is named Olaf.
Olaf is a cheerful snowman who first appears after Elsa accidentally freezes Arendelle and retreats to the North Mountain. Elsa’s ice magic gives him a living form, and he joins Anna and Kristoff during their search for Elsa. His dream of experiencing summer is one of the film’s recurring comic ideas.
Olaf originated in the childhood snowman that Anna and Elsa build together in the opening part of the film. Because he is connected to their early memories, his presence represents the sisters’ lost closeness as well as Anna’s desire to restore their relationship.
Josh Gad provides Olaf’s speaking voice. The character returns in Frozen II and appears in several related Disney productions. A separate giant snow creature called Marshmallow also comes to life through Elsa’s magic, but Marshmallow is not the name of the friendly snowman who travels with Anna.
