“Into the Unknown” was nominated for Best Original Song at the 92nd Academy Awards for Disney’s Frozen II.
The song is performed in the film by Elsa, voiced in English by Idina Menzel, with additional vocals by Norwegian singer Aurora. It was written by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, the songwriting team also responsible for much of Frozen’s music.
At the 2020 Oscars, “Into the Unknown” competed against songs including “I’m Standing with You” from Breakthrough and “Stand Up” from Harriet. Elton John and Bernie Taupin won the award for “(I’m Gonna) Love Me Again” from Rocketman, so the Frozen II song was a nominee rather than the winner.
A common mix-up is confusing this nomination with Frozen’s “Let It Go,” which won the Oscar for Best Original Song at the 86th Academy Awards. “Into the Unknown” became one of Frozen II’s most recognizable musical numbers and serves as Elsa’s response to a mysterious voice calling her beyond Arendelle.
