In Disney's Encanto, which song became the first Disney song to top the US Billboard Hot 100?

The story behind the answer

In Disney's Encanto, “We Don't Talk About Bruno” became the first Disney song to top the US Billboard Hot 100. The ensemble number reached number one in February 2022, more than two months after the film's theatrical release.

Lin-Manuel Miranda wrote the song for Encanto, and several cast members perform different sections from their characters' perspectives. The song introduces the family's conflicting opinions about Bruno Madrigal, whose visions have made him a taboo subject inside the household.

Its chart success surpassed the previous peak for a Disney song, “A Whole New World” from Aladdin, which reached number four in 1993. “We Don't Talk About Bruno” also became a major streaming and social-media hit. It was not Disney's submission for the Academy Award for Best Original Song; that nomination went to “Dos Oruguitas.”
