“Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo” is the magical song that helps transform Cinderella’s pumpkin into a carriage in Disney's Cinderella.
The song is performed by the Fairy Godmother during the 1950 animated film. As she sings the nonsense incantation, Cinderella’s pumpkin becomes a coach, mice become horses, and other animals are transformed into attendants. The sequence leads Cinderella toward the royal ball, while the spell’s midnight time limit remains central to the story.
Mack David, Al Hoffman, and Jerry Livingston wrote the song. It was nominated for Best Original Song at the 23rd Academy Awards, although it did not win. The title’s deliberately invented words became one of the most recognizable magical phrases in popular culture.
The song is often confused with “A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes,” Cinderella’s reflective opening number, or “So This Is Love,” the romantic song connected with the ball. Neither is the transformation spell.
