David Ogden Stiers voiced Cogsworth in Disney's 1991 animated Beauty and the Beast.
Cogsworth is the castle's enchanted mantel clock and acts as a formal, anxious counterpoint to Lumière, the more flamboyant candelabra. Stiers's precise delivery gives Cogsworth his fussy authority and comic timing, especially when he tries to maintain order during the castle's increasingly chaotic events.
Stiers was also known for playing Major Charles Emerson Winchester III on the television series M*A*S*H. In Disney animation, he later voiced several other characters, including the Archdeacon in The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Cogsworth is sometimes confused with Lumière because both are enchanted household servants, but their voices and personalities are distinct.
