In Disney’s 1967 film The Jungle Book, which snake sings “Trust in Me”?

The story behind the answer

In Disney’s 1967 film The Jungle Book, the snake Kaa sings “Trust in Me.”

Kaa performs the song while trying to hypnotize Mowgli. The sequence turns a threatening encounter into a comic musical set piece, with Kaa repeatedly presenting himself as trustworthy while clearly intending to eat the boy.

The song was written for the film by Robert and Richard Sherman, who supplied several of its best-known musical numbers. Sterling Holloway provided Kaa’s speaking and singing voice in the English version.

Kaa is based on Kipling’s powerful python character, but Disney’s version is more comic and scheming. In the book, Kaa is an important ally of Mowgli and a formidable hunter, whereas the 1967 movie presents him primarily as a deceptive antagonist.
