In Disney’s 1953 film Peter Pan, Captain Hook’s pirate ship is called the Jolly Roger.
The Jolly Roger serves as the home and headquarters of Captain Hook and his pirate crew. Much of the film’s action involving the pirates takes place aboard the ship, including scenes with Mr. Smee, the capture of Wendy and her brothers, and the final confrontation with Peter Pan.
“Jolly Roger” is also the traditional name for a pirate flag, usually depicted with a skull and crossbones. That shared association can cause confusion: in Peter Pan, the Jolly Roger is specifically the name of Hook’s ship, while the ship also flies a pirate flag.
The vessel is central to the story’s visual identity in Disney’s animated adaptation. It reappears in later Peter Pan-related works, although designs and details can vary between stage productions, films, and illustrations. Captain Hook himself is named for the hook replacing his left hand, while the Jolly Roger provides the setting for his pirate crew’s adventures.
