In C.S. Lewis’s Narnia series, what is the name of the ship in The Voyage of the Dawn Treader?

The story behind the answer

The ship in C.S. Lewis’s The Voyage of the Dawn Treader is called the Dawn Treader.

The Dawn Treader carries King Caspian X, Edmund Pevensie, Lucy Pevensie and their companions eastward across the Narnian sea. Their voyage searches for seven lords who were banished from Caspian’s kingdom and explores islands beyond the known parts of Narnia.

The book was published in 1952 as the third volume in the original publication order of The Chronicles of Narnia. It is the fifth book in the commonly used chronological reading order, which places The Magician’s Nephew and The Horse and His Boy earlier.

The ship’s name is sometimes confused with the title of the novel, but the title uses the phrase The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. The vessel itself is the Dawn Treader, a royal ship belonging to Narnia.
