In Brandon Sanderson’s fantasy novel The Way of Kings, the world where the story takes place is called Roshar.
Roshar is a storm-battered world shaped by Highstorms, immense weather events that regularly sweep across its continents. Its inhabitants build cities, roads, and defensive structures with these violent storms in mind.
The novel follows several viewpoints, including Kaladin, Shallan Davar, and Dalinar Kholin. Their stories gradually reveal Roshar’s ancient history, the return of supernatural powers, and the significance of the Knights Radiant.
Roshar is also the name of the broader planetary setting in Sanderson’s Cosmere. It should not be confused with Scadrial, the world of the Mistborn novels, or Sel, the setting of Elantris and The Emperor’s Soul.
