In Big Hero 6, the inflatable healthcare robot created by Tadashi Hamada is Baymax.
Baymax is designed as a personal healthcare companion. Tadashi develops him at the San Fransokyo Institute of Technology, where the robot is intended to detect health problems and provide treatment recommendations. After Tadashi’s death, his younger brother Hiro discovers Baymax and gradually transforms the gentle medical assistant into a superhero teammate.
Baymax’s soft, inflatable body is a deliberate safety feature: it is intended to make contact with patients less intimidating and reduce the chance of injury. The character is voiced by Scott Adsit in the original English-language version. A frequent mix-up is confusing Baymax with Hiro, who is the teenage inventor and central human character, or with the other members of the superhero team, such as Wasabi and Fred.
