In badminton, what is the maximum score at which a game can be won?

The story behind the answer

In badminton, 30 points is the maximum score at which a game can be won.

A standard game is normally won by the first side to reach 21 points with a lead of two. That rule can produce extended scores such as 22–20 or 27–25. However, the game has a firm ceiling: when the score reaches 29–29, the next rally decides the winner, making the final winning score 30.

This cap prevents a game from continuing indefinitely while preserving the need for a close contest during most of the late stages. The rule applies to singles and doubles under the standard rally-point system.

The maximum is a game score, not a match score. Matches are generally best of three games, and each game starts again from zero. The 30-point limit is therefore relevant independently in every game.
