In astronomy, Pandora is a small moon that helps shepherd which feature of Saturn?

The story behind the answer

In astronomy, Pandora helps shepherd Saturn’s narrow F ring.

Pandora is one of Saturn’s small inner moons. Together with the moon Prometheus, it exerts gravitational influences that help confine and shape the F ring, one of Saturn’s outermost main rings. Prometheus orbits inside the F ring, while Pandora orbits outside it, creating a well-known shepherd-moon arrangement.

The F ring is unusually narrow and structured. Gravitational interactions with the two moons contribute to its braided, kinked, and clumped appearance. The ring system is not simply a set of perfectly smooth circles; small moons and gravitational resonances can produce visible changes in ring particles.

Pandora should not be confused with Saturn’s larger moon Titan or with the asteroid 55 Pandora. The moon received its mythological name because Pandora and Prometheus are connected figures in Greek mythology, and both names were applied to members of Saturn’s system.
