In Assassin’s Creed Rogue, which character is the playable protagonist who leaves the Assassins?

The story behind the answer

In Assassin’s Creed Rogue, Shay Patrick Cormac is the playable protagonist who leaves the Assassins.

Shay begins the story as an Assassin during the Seven Years’ War. After a devastating event connected to an Assassin mission, he rejects the Brotherhood and joins the Templars. The game then follows his pursuit of former allies, presenting the series’ conflict largely from the Templar side.

Rogue was released in 2014 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, with later releases for Windows and other platforms. Its setting links North Atlantic exploration with locations in the North American colonies and New York. The game’s naval mechanics build on systems developed for earlier entries such as Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag.

Arno Dorian is the protagonist of Assassin’s Creed Unity, while Jacob Frye is one of Syndicate’s protagonists. Edward Kenway is the central character of Black Flag, so all three are plausible but different series heroes.
