In Assassin's Creed Revelations, which Assassin returns as the main historical protagonist?

The story behind the answer

Ezio Auditore returns as the main historical protagonist of Assassin's Creed Revelations.

Revelations continues Ezio's story after Assassin's Creed II and Assassin's Creed Brotherhood. The older Ezio travels to Constantinople, where he searches for keys connected to Altaïr's legacy and becomes involved with the local Assassin Order.

The game also includes playable sections featuring Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad, making it a meeting point between two major historical protagonists. Desmond Miles remains part of the modern-day framework, but Ezio is the principal historical character for most of the campaign.

Assassin's Creed Revelations was released in 2011. It concludes Ezio's main trilogy of games, while also providing a closing chapter for Altaïr's story. Edward Kenway and Arno Dorian belong to later entries.
