Answer
Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad
The protagonist of Assassin's Creed, released in 2007, is Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad.
Altaïr is a Syrian Assassin operating during the Third Crusade. At the beginning of the game, he is a highly ranked but overconfident member of the Assassin Brotherhood. After failing an important mission, he is demoted by his mentor, Al Mualim, and must regain his rank by eliminating targets across the Holy Land.
The game visits cities including Masyaf, Jerusalem, Acre, and Damascus. Altaïr's story also introduces the series' central conflict between the Assassins and Templars, as well as the Pieces of Eden, powerful artifacts connected to an ancient civilization.
Altaïr is sometimes confused with Desmond Miles, the modern-day character whose genetic memories allow players to experience Altaïr's life. Altaïr also returns in later series material, especially Assassin's Creed: Revelations.
