In Assassin's Creed Odyssey, what is the name of the Greek island where the protagonist's family home is located?

The story behind the answer

In Assassin's Creed Odyssey, Kephallonia is the Greek island where the protagonist's family home is located.

Kephallonia, also spelled Cephalonia in modern English, is the starting region for either Kassandra or Alexios. The player begins as a misthios living in the settlement of Kausos, and the island introduces the game's exploration, dialogue choices, mercenary system, and naval travel. It also establishes the protagonist's connection to Myrrine and the events that drive the wider odyssey.

The island is inspired by the real Ionian island of Kefalonia, west of mainland Greece. The game uses a fictionalized version of the ancient Greek world, so its geography is not a perfect map of the historical region. Kephallonia is distinct from other major locations such as Athens, Sparta, Naxos, and Delos. After the opening chapters, the player travels across a much larger Aegean setting, but the island remains the narrative point of departure and the place associated with the protagonist's early life.
