In Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, the pirate protagonist Kenway is named Edward.
Edward Kenway is a Welsh privateer-turned-pirate active during the Golden Age of Piracy in the early eighteenth century. He becomes involved with the Assassins after pursuing the identity and valuable clothing of an Assassin named Duncan Walpole.
The game is set mainly in the Caribbean and features locations including Havana, Nassau, and Kingston. Naval exploration and ship combat aboard Edward's ship, the Jackdaw, are central features, distinguishing Black Flag from the more land-focused earlier games.
Edward is also the father of Haytham Kenway and the grandfather of Ratonhnhaké:ton, known as Connor, the protagonist of Assassin's Creed III. Those family connections make Edward part of one of the series' most important Assassin-versus-Templar bloodlines.
