In Assassin's Creed III, Kaniehtí:io is associated with the Kanien'kehá:ka nation.
Kaniehtí:io, commonly called Ziio in the game, is Ratonhnhaké:ton's mother and a member of the Kanien'kehá:ka, also known in English as the Mohawk. Her community is located in the Kanien'kehá:ka village of Kanatahséton, and the early frontier chapters introduce the player to its people, traditions, and political concerns.
Ratonhnhaké:ton later uses the anglicized name Connor, but his Kanien'kehá:ka identity remains central to the story. The game places his personal conflict within the American Revolution and connects fictional character arcs to real historical events and figures. The nation name can be difficult to recognize because English-language sources often use “Mohawk” instead.
The Lenape and Oneida are other Indigenous peoples connected to the broader region and period, but they are not the specific answer for Kaniehtí:io's identity. Using the nation's own name avoids treating the English exonym as the only valid label.
