In Assassin's Creed III, the game's opening sequence in Boston begins in 1754.
The date places the early story during the French and Indian War, the North American phase of the wider Seven Years' War. The player initially controls Haytham Kenway, who arrives in the American colonies and begins pursuing a mysterious objective. The opening establishes the game's colonial setting before the narrative shifts to Connor, or Ratonhnhaké:ton.
Connor's later story unfolds during the American Revolution, including events associated with Boston, New York and the surrounding frontier. This structure means that the date 1754 belongs to the beginning of the campaign rather than the Declaration of Independence or the war's later battles.
Assassin's Creed III was released in 2012. Its historical fiction combines real figures such as George Washington, Benjamin Franklin and Charles Lee with invented characters and the series' fictional conflict between Assassins and Templars. The game's opening date is therefore a useful distinction from its better-known revolutionary-era scenes.
