In Assassin's Creed II, which city is famous for Ezio's early adventures and the Santa Maria del Fiore cathedral?

The story behind the answer

Florence is the city featured in Ezio's early adventures in Assassin's Creed II.

The game begins in Renaissance Italy, where Ezio Auditore da Firenze grows up in Florence. The city provides the setting for his family life, the conspiracy that changes his future, and his first steps toward becoming an Assassin.

Florence's Santa Maria del Fiore cathedral, commonly called the Duomo, is one of the recognizable landmarks shown in the game. The real cathedral's dome was engineered by Filippo Brunelleschi and completed in the fifteenth century.

Players sometimes remember Venice more strongly because it becomes a major later setting in Assassin's Creed II. Florence, Venice, Monteriggioni, Forlì, and other locations form the game's wider Italian world, but Florence is Ezio's starting home city.
