In Assassin's Creed II, which 15th-century inventor helps Ezio with flying-machine technology?

The story behind the answer

Leonardo da Vinci helps Ezio with flying-machine technology in Assassin's Creed II.

Leonardo is introduced as a close ally of Ezio Auditore. He translates pages of Altaïr's Codex, studies their diagrams, and uses his engineering knowledge to improve Ezio's equipment. His work leads to the glider used during the Venice mission, where Ezio crosses the city from the air.

The real Leonardo da Vinci was a Florentine artist, engineer, anatomist, and inventor who lived from 1452 to 1519. The game draws on his notebooks and reputation for experimental design, while adapting his inventions to fit the series' action-adventure story.

Leonardo's role is fictionalized but rooted in the Renaissance setting. Michelangelo appears elsewhere as a famous artist, and Niccolò Machiavelli becomes an important Assassin ally. Neither is the inventor responsible for Ezio's flying-machine technology.
