The protagonist of Assassin's Creed II is named Ezio Auditore da Firenze.
Ezio is introduced as a young Florentine nobleman in late-fifteenth-century Italy. After his family is betrayed and executed, he becomes involved with the Assassin Brotherhood and spends much of the game pursuing those responsible. His story takes him through locations including Florence, Monteriggioni, Venice, and the Vatican.
The game presents Ezio as a fictional character interacting with real historical figures such as Leonardo da Vinci, Lorenzo de' Medici, and Rodrigo Borgia. His full name is often shortened to Ezio Auditore, while “da Firenze” identifies his Florentine origin.
Ezio later returns as the central character of Assassin's Creed Brotherhood and Assassin's Creed Revelations. This makes him one of the series' most prominent recurring protagonists, although he is not the hero of the original Assassin's Creed, whose protagonist is Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad.
