Rome is the city controlled by the Borgia family and Ezio Auditore's main base in Assassin's Creed Brotherhood.
The game continues Ezio's story after Assassin's Creed II and places him in Rome, the center of Borgia power. Ezio works to weaken the family's influence by liberating districts, recruiting new Assassins, and confronting Cesare Borgia. The city functions as both the main story environment and the setting for much of the game's economic and political progression.
This focus distinguishes Brotherhood from Assassin's Creed II, which moves among several Italian cities, including Florence and Venice. It also differs from Revelations, where Ezio travels to Constantinople. Rome's monuments, neighborhoods, and surrounding areas are presented as a large navigable environment.
Brotherhood introduced or expanded several systems associated with the series, including recruiting and training Assassin allies and commanding them during missions. The game also popularized a multiplayer mode in which players hunted one another using stealth and disguises.
