In A Series of Unfortunate Events, the Baudelaire orphans attend Prufrock Preparatory School in The Austere Academy.

Prufrock Preparatory School is the principal setting of the fifth book in Lemony Snicket’s series. Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire are sent there after the events of earlier books, but the school offers little safety from the series’ recurring dangers.

The academy is run by Vice Principal Nero, whose absurd rules and self-important behavior create much of the book’s satire. The Baudelaires also meet Duncan and Isadora Quagmire, twins who share their interest in uncovering the mysterious organization known as V.F.D.

The name can be confused with the title of the book or with other institutions in the series. The Austere Academy is the book’s title, while Prufrock Preparatory School is the school attended by the children. The Netflix adaptation also uses the same fictional school setting.
