In 2020, which subreddit was banned for violating Reddit's hate speech policy?

In 2020, Reddit banned r/The_Donald for violating its site-wide policies, including rules concerning hate speech, harassment, and targeting. The ban occurred on June 29, 2020, as Reddit announced a broader crackdown that removed roughly 2,000 communities.

r/The_Donald was created in June 2015 as a forum for supporters of Donald Trump during his presidential campaign. It became one of Reddit’s largest and most active political communities, eventually reaching more than 790,000 subscribers. Reddit had already quarantined the subreddit in June 2019 after reports of threats against public officials and other policy violations.

The 2020 action was not the first sanction against the community. In February 2020, Reddit removed several moderators and placed the subreddit in restricted mode. After the final ban, many users moved to TheDonald.win, an off-site successor that later became Patriots.win. The subreddit’s name is sometimes confused with those successor websites or with unrelated banned communities such as r/fatpeoplehate and r/incels.
