ENHYPEN was formed when members were selected through the 2020 survival program I-LAND. The show was created by Mnet and BELIFT LAB, a joint venture connected to CJ ENM and Big Hit Entertainment, to develop a new global boy group.
I-LAND aired from June to September 2020 and began with 23 male trainees. Through performances, missions, evaluations, voting and eliminations, the competition narrowed the field. Seven finalists were chosen for the debut lineup during the live finale on September 18, 2020: Jungwon, Heeseung, Jay, Jake, Sunghoon, Sunoo and Ni-ki.
A common mix-up is confusing the group’s formation with its official debut. I-LAND created and revealed the lineup, but ENHYPEN officially debuted later, on November 30, 2020, with the mini-album BORDER : DAY ONE and the title track “Given-Taken.” The group’s name was also announced during the I-LAND finale.
