America250’s Pathway of the Patriots project planned to plant 250 trees along Pennsylvania’s Schuylkill River Trail.
The project was introduced in Philadelphia during the early planning period for the United States Semiquincentennial. Its organizers connected the tree planting with the nation’s 250th anniversary, creating a living commemorative pathway between Philadelphia and Valley Forge.
The Schuylkill River Trail is a major recreational and historic route in southeastern Pennsylvania. Valley Forge is closely associated with the Continental Army’s winter encampment during the American Revolutionary War, while Philadelphia was a central location for the Continental Congress and the founding era.
The number 250 was deliberately symbolic rather than a count of original colonies, states, or signers. It reflects the anniversary itself. This makes the project an example of how America250 planning extended beyond ceremonies and coinage into landscape, heritage, and public-space projects.
