The X-Files aired for 11 total seasons, including its revival.
The original series ran for nine seasons, from September 1993 through May 2002. After a long break, Fox revived the show for a six-episode tenth season in 2016. A further ten-episode season followed in 2018, bringing the overall total to 11 seasons.
The revival was prompted by continuing interest in the franchise and reunited David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. Although season 10 was promoted initially as an “event series,” Fox and most reference sources treated it as the show’s tenth season after broadcast.
Viewers sometimes count only the original run and answer nine, or mistake the two feature films for additional seasons. The films—released in 1998 and 2008—are separate theatrical entries, not television seasons. Season 11, which premiered January 3, 2018, was the final season aired.
