LeBron James has been named NBA Finals MVP four times. He won the award in 2012 and 2013 with the Miami Heat, in 2016 with the Cleveland Cavaliers, and in 2020 with the Los Angeles Lakers.
The 2012 award came during James’s first championship season, when Miami defeated Oklahoma City. He repeated as Finals MVP in 2013 after the Heat survived a seven-game series against San Antonio. In 2016, he became the first player to win the award after his team recovered from a 3–1 Finals deficit, helping Cleveland end the city’s 52-year major-sports championship drought.
James’s fourth Finals MVP arrived in the 2020 bubble, when the Lakers defeated the Heat. That victory also made him the first player to win Finals MVP with three different franchises. A common mix-up is confusing Finals MVPs with regular-season MVPs: James has four of each, but they are separate awards voted on for different parts of the season.
