Twenty-four teams competed in the 2018 League of Legends World Championship.
The 2018 World Championship was held in South Korea from October 1 to November 3. Its 24-team field consisted of teams from established major regions and qualifying wildcard regions. The competition began with a play-in stage before the group stage and knockout bracket.
Invictus Gaming won the championship by defeating Fnatic 3–0 in the final at Incheon’s Munhak Stadium. The event was notable because it was the first World Championship won by a Chinese organization, and its 24-team structure reflected Riot’s expanded global qualification system.
The number 24 refers to the complete tournament field, not the number of teams in the group stage or knockout bracket. Sixteen teams reached the group stage after the play-in process, while only eight advanced to the quarterfinals. Those different stages are why tournament summaries may cite several smaller numbers.
