How many stations are currently served by the London Underground?

The story behind the answer

The London Underground currently serves 272 stations across its 11 lines.

The network grew from the Metropolitan Railway, which opened between Paddington and Farringdon in 1863. Later companies built routes across central London and into the suburbs, eventually creating the large interconnected system known worldwide as the Tube.

The figure counts stations served by London Underground services, including stations shared by more than one line only once. This is different from counting line-station calls, because a single station can appear on several routes.

The Underground is also connected with London Overground, the Elizabeth line, and National Rail, but those systems are not included in the 272-station total.
