The current Subaru emblem contains six stars.
The badge represents the Pleiades star cluster, known in Japan as Subaru. Five smaller stars surround one larger star, producing a six-star arrangement inside a blue oval. The design links the automobile company to its name and to the cluster’s recognizable appearance in the night sky.
Subaru’s parent company, Fuji Heavy Industries, was formed through the combination of six companies. The six-star emblem is therefore commonly understood to carry both an astronomical and corporate association, although the Pleiades reference is the emblem’s most direct visual explanation.
The stars are not meant to depict a random constellation. They specifically reference the Pleiades, an open star cluster in the constellation Taurus. Subaru’s blue oval and silver stars have appeared in several refinements while preserving the six-star composition.
