Five special quarter-dollar designs were authorized for the 2026 United States semiquincentennial.
The Circulating Collectible Coin Redesign Act of 2020 authorized a redesign of six circulating denominations for the anniversary, including five quarter dollars. The quarter series was designed to make the anniversary visible in ordinary commerce as well as in collector products.
The legislation required the special coins to be symbolic of the semiquincentennial. It also specified that one of the quarters should show the contributions of women. The designs were developed through consultation involving the Commission of Fine Arts and the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee.
The number five refers specifically to the quarter-dollar designs, not to every coin issued for the anniversary. The 2026 coinage also included special treatments involving the cent, nickel, dime, half dollar, and one-dollar coin, plus silver and gold collector pieces.
